Do not enter a home or building with large cracks, fallen elements, visible leaning, or new damage. Aftershocks can worsen a structure that seemed stable. Observe from a safe distance and follow Firefighters, Civil Defense, or local-authority instructions. [1]

Stay away from facades, cornices, and glass.
Do not use elevators.
Re-enter only when a competent authority says it is safe.
